Devs: BlackBerry Analytics Portal Getting Redesigned This Weekend

Developers that are using RIM’s free BlackBerry Analytics service powered by Webtrends are getting a nice facelift this weekend. RIM sent out an email that the portal is getting redesigned starting Saturday November 12th from 7:30AM Pacific Time and lasting for “several hours.” The BlackBerry Analytics service will continue collecting data at that time but the portal will not be available. They are also not changing the available reports or SDK.

RIM Posts Global BlackBerry Service Update Page – Confirms Issues in the Americas

RIM’s @BlackBerryHelp account posted a link to a “BlackBerry Service Update” page on their RIM.com website with updates on the current BlackBerry Outage. This is on top of the UK BlackBerry Service Update page. The latest update just went up an hour ago confirming intermittent issues for “Subscribers in the Americas.” They are obviously working to fix the issues ASAP as a priority one job. Here is what they have to say so far:

Wednesday 12th October – 9:45 (GMT-5)
BlackBerry subscribers in the Americas may be experiencing intermittent service delays this morning. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience. We will provide a further update as soon as more information is available.

Wednesday 12th October – 12:00 (GMT+1)
We know that many of you are still experiencing service problems. The resolution of this service issue is our Number One priority right now and we are working night and day to restore all BlackBerry services to normal levels. We will continue to keep this page updated.

Tuesday 11th October – 21:30 (GMT+1)
The messaging and browsing delays that some of you are still experiencing were caused by a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure. Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to many of you and we will continue to keep you informed.

Some of you are experiencing messaging and browsing delays. We are working to restore normal service as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

Rumor: RIM Strikes BlackBerry Music Deal With Top Record Company – 2 More Closing Soon

We have heard quite a few rumors about a BlackBerry Music service powered by BBM but the rumors have always been light on details. Now we have marginally more information from CNET (Thanks Mark) which heard from their sources that RIM is definitely working on a BlackBerry Music service. Supposedly RIM has already inked a deal with one of the four major record companies. They are also close to signing with two of the others. The source also said that a beta test version of the service could be coming out in the next few weeks.

I think this BlackBerry Music service could be really cool if RIM integrates it well with BBM. Maybe letting you even share songs over BBM. What do you think? Would you use a music service app from RIM? I am still curious to know if it will be a streaming or download based service.

BlackBerry Push Service SDK v1.1.0 Quietly Rolled Out for Developers

Its an odd move for RIM to not even mention this on their developer Blog but RIM updated their Push Service SDK tool to v1.1.0 late last month. Josep noticed that RIM has updated their documentation and release notes for the Push SDK on June 23rd and again on July 4th. This comes after their recent announcement that they were shuttering WebSignals and pushing developers to the Push API which makes sense.

According to the change log on RIM’s site this new version 1.1.0 includes the following new features for developers:
