BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860 Commercial Posted by RIM

 

RIM has put up a commercial for their new BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860 this week. The commercial shows off some of the features of the device as RIM’s redeeming all touch BlackBerry. Hopefully the QNX touch BlackBerrys really help RIM take off in the space. I am kind of digging the fact that RIM is finally showing off the features of the phone in commercials instead of more esoteric stuff. Check out the video below:

Usually CDMA BlackBerrys do not get as much OS love when they launch so its nice to see that changing. Lucas @N4BB spotted Panhandle Communications launch of OS 7.0.0.362 for the BlackBerry Bold 9930, Curve 9350, & Torch 9850. This is the latest OS we have seen yet so if you are having issues with the previous OS 7.0.0.353 you may want to give this one a spin.

Verizon BlackBerry Torch 9850 Now Available Online!

That was quick! Jacob let us know (via N4BB) that Verizon is now selling the BlackBerry Torch 9850 on their website. The Torch 9850 is the all touch BlackBerry that redeems the Storm line. It is selling for $199.99 on Verizon’s website now with a 2 year contract which is not bad. They even have it featured on the Verizon Wireless homepage.

Verizon BlackBerry Torch 9850 Officially Launches September 8th!

We heard rumors that it was coming but now it is official. Verizon has announced the pricing and launch dates for the all touch BlackBerry Torch 9850. The Torch 9850 will be available on Verizon’s website on Sept. 8th and will be in stores on Sept. 15th. Yes you read that right it launches in less than 2 days. Nothing else is really new other than it coming with a free 16GB MicroSDHC card.

Boxtone Adds Support for BlackBerry 7 Devices

 

The popular BoxTone Enterprise Mobility Management solution has announced this week that they now support the latest BlackBerry 7 devices.  That includes the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 and Torch 9810/9850/9860. No word on the just announced and soon available BlackBerry Curve 9350/9360/9370. US Cellular Confirms BlackBerry Torch 9850 Launch Date & Price

US Cellular has been pretty quiet during the BlackBerry 7 device rollout. Now we have them coming out and announcing that they will be getting the BlackBerry Torch 9850 (All Touch). They will be selling the device in stores on August 26th for $199.99 after a $100 mail in rebate. That is a bit pricier than what others are charging but they do have some perks like battery swap and rewards program for paying bills on time, adding a line, or referring new customers. They are also offering a switcher credit of $100 per line for users who switch to US Cellular and activate a new smartphone.

Leaked Poster Shows Verizon BlackBerry Torch 9850 Coming

Quite a few Storm users have been wondering if Verizon was going to carry the all touch BlackBerry Torch 9850. The 9850 is RIM’s chance to fix what they failed with the Storm and it seems to be popular. Verizon has remained hush about any BlackBerry but the Bold 9930 but a leaked poster scored by Adam @CrackBerry shows some hope. It shows the BlackBerry Torch 9850 with Verizon branding. While I still recommend the 9930 above all I know quite a few people who love their touchscreen typing and the resolution is gorgeous.

The BlackBerry 7 devices are rolling out like clockwork. The latest out the gate is the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 from Sprint. The Bold 9930 is going for a nice and reasonable $199.99 and the Torch 9850 is selling for $199.99 after a $50 mail in rebate. Give it a few days and you will probably see another $50 come off of these devices from resellers like WireFly and Amazon.

BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860 Reviews Roundup!

We did a roundup yesterday of the reviews for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 & 9930 and now it is time to cover the new All Touch BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860. These reviews are mostly of the Sprint BlackBerry Torch 9850 Though there are two of the GSM Torch 9860 but the devices are more or less the same otherwise. Reviewers seem to agree that this is what the Storm should have been 2 years ago. They are also loving the fluid OS coupled with the high res screen though the physical buttons seem to be an afterthought in an otherwise well designed phone.

We knew they were coming but now it is official. Sprint has confirmed for us that the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and the BlackBerry Torch 9850 will be launching on Sunday, August 21st. Wireless Giant Device Roadmap Shows Unreleased & Unannounced Devices

You have to love how these codenames are being bandied around. The latest leak comes from the CrackBerry crew showing the roadmap from Wireless Giant. This roadmap has the normal devices we have heard about including the BlackBerry Bold 9900 & 9930, Torch 9810, and Torch 9850 & 9860 together with some estimated launch dates. What gets really interesting is that it throws in a whole soup of other codenames including the hush hush BlackBerry Cyclone TV device and a Wi-Fi stereo accessory called the Beats and Calpyso. Feel free to speculate in the comments and complain about the estimated launch dates!

BlackBerry Curve 9360 Has NFC Built In? (Pictures)

We mentioned when RIM announced the BlackBerry Torch 9810 & 9850/9860 that we were surprised they did not have NFC built in like the Bold 9900 and 9930. We just assumed that meant that previous reports of the BlackBerry Curve 9360 packing NFC were also incorrect. One of our new tipsters did some sleuthing and found that the BlackBerry Curve 9360 actually HAS NFC according to its OS. Odd right?

 

As you can see in these pictures the BlackBerry Curve 9360 reports back that it has NFC along with the same options as the Bold 9900. Also notice the little NFC lightning bolt style icons in the picture above. The main oddity is that it does not have the NFC antenna in the battery door like the Bold 9900. I am not sure what to make of that. Let us know what you think!

Sprint Confirms BlackBerry Bold 9930 & Torch 9850 For Fall Release

We already heard from RIM that Sprint would be getting the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and BlackBerry Torch 9850 but now we are hearing directly from Sprint. They have confirmed both devices for release this fall which is a little later than the August release we had rumored since fall is technically September-November. Here is what Sprint had to say about the launch:

NFC Only Coming in BlackBerry Bold 9900 & 9930 OS 7 Devices?

I am not sure how we all missed this before but previous spec leaks for the BlackBerry Torch 9810, 9850, and 9860 said that the device had NFC. I noticed in RIM’s announcement this morning that NFC was nowhere to be seen for these devices which had me wondering. So I checked back to the FCC filings for the 9900/9930, 9810, and 9850/9860 and noticed something interesting. When looking over the Test Report for all 3 only the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 had a logged Near Field Communications test performed. The product pages also only list the 9900 as having NFC for “accessory pairing and smart tag reading/writing.”

I am not sure why RIM would not want this feature to have parity across all next gen BlackBerry devices but it has me scratching my head wondering why. I was planning on getting the 9900 (GodBerry) either way but now it makes it truly the flagship BlackBerry.

RIM posted up a great interview with the project managers for the all touch BlackBerry Torch 9850 and 9860. They talk about how they made the all touch device and the design inspiration behind it. They also tapped the project manager for the BlackBerry Torch 9810 to talk about that device and how it refined the original Torch.
