Vodafone UK Gets White BlackBerry Bold 9900 – AutoFocus?

Vodafone UK 9900 autofocus

The white BlackBerry Bold 9900 is making its rounds to carriers around the world. The latest stop is Vodafone UK which Terrence let us know about. They are offering the phone for free on certain plans but that is not the interesting part. Terrence pointed out to us that Vodafone has the white 9900 listed as having autofocus. I doubt that is the case since RIM said autofocus would not fit in the design but its fun to speculate!

Either way you can find the white BlackBerry Bold 9900 here on Vodafone UK’s website

BlackBerry Bold 9900 & Curve 9360 Get MasterCard PayPass Certification

verizon-bold-9930-nfc

RIM announced this morning that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 are now the “World’s First SIM-Based Smartphones to Receive MasterCard PayPass Handset Certification.” That is not to shabby for RIM since these devices are freshly launched. France Telecom Orange is the first carrier to benefit from the certification and plans to use the NFC features for contactless payments.

Check out the quotes below from Orange, RIM, & MasterCard:

"We are happy to offer the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 as part of the Orange range of mobile NFC devices. We are committed to actively marketing NFC devices, and these new smartphones will help accelerate the adoption of mobile NFC services secured by an Orange SIM, including mobile payments," said Vincent Barnaud, Director of Contactless Services at France Telecom – Orange. "We have a strong partnership with RIM, and look forward to working together on more NFC initiatives in the future."

Andrew Bocking, Vice President, Handheld Software Product Management at RIM said, "NFC technology is making smartphones even smarter and the MasterCard certification is a significant step forward in helping transform the way we use mobile devices for payments. We are working proactively with our carrier partners, banks, retailers and other industry players and we are excited to push the boundaries of how NFC can enable new mobile experiences for BlackBerry smartphone users around the world."

"MasterCard is proud to be the first to certify these popular BlackBerry smartphones for mobile payments, and offer consumers another simple, easy, safe and convenient way to pay. In card payments, MasterCard has long been a leader in the testing and certification of products – for the benefit of customers, issuers, merchants and acquirers. We are delighted to extend this leadership role into the mobile payments arena and applaud RIM’s efforts to usher in the next phase of NFC adoption by delivering compliant devices to the market," said Mung Ki Woo, Group Executive, Mobile at MasterCard Worldwide. "The availability of NFC on popular BlackBerry smartphones is an important milestone for the mobile contactless payments business."

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 Are World’s First SIM-Based Smartphones to Receive MasterCard PayPass Handset Certification

- Carriers globally will now have access to the first NFC smartphones certified as MasterCard PayPass(TM) approved devices
- France Telecom – Orange amongst first to benefit from MasterCard certification awarded to RIM

WATERLOO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – Oct. 26, 2011) – Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) today announced the BlackBerry(R) Bold(TM) 9900 and BlackBerry(R) Curve(TM) 9360 smartphones are the first SIM-based NFC smartphones to be certified by MasterCard Worldwide as PayPass-approved devices.

The certification was granted on the basis of the BlackBerry(R) smartphones meeting the functionality, interoperability and security requirements of MasterCard. With this certification, any MasterCard PayPass-issuing bank globally will be able to deploy MasterCard PayPass-enabled accounts to the SIM card of these smartphones.

The ecosystem to allow customers to take advantage of the certified BlackBerry smartphones for NFC payments is already growing. Seidio Releases Spring Clip Holster for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 & 9930

Seidio spring clip holster Bold 9900 9930 BlackBerry Seidio spring clip holster Bold 9900 9930 BlackBerry 2

Anybody else miss the old clip on holsters RIM used to ship with all their BlackBerrys? The leather holster that comes with the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 is actually quite good but some people prefer the traditional plastic clip BlackBerry holsters. Tom let us know that Seidio has exactly those users in mind with their new BlackBerry Bold 9900 / 99309 Spring Clip Holster. It is intended for a “naked” case-less Bold and provides a spring clip that lifts to get your device in and out. The inside is covered by felt and it faces inside when you place it in the holster to protect the screen.

Features include:

You can pick up the Seidio Spring Clip Holster for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 for $29.95 directly from Seidio.

White BlackBerry Bold 9900 Caught on Camera…

White BlackBerry Bold 9900

I don’t know what it is about white BlackBerrys but they really look slick. Not as slick as a blood red 9900 but still you see what I mean. Adham over at Berry-WD scored a picture of what looks like a BlackBerry Bold 9900 decked out in white. We have heard that a white variant was coming so it was just a matter of time. Especially since RIM has made white versions for most of the Bold line except the CDMA variants if I am not mistaken.

Check out the picture and let us know if you would pick up a 9900 in white. I am actually curious if RIM would sell more white or black models if they were made available on the same day…

T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900 Getting UMA Wi-Fi Calling in November

T-Mobile 9900

One of the annoying parts for T-Mobile customers who picked up the sweet BlackBerry Bold 9900 was the lack of UMA Wi-Fi calling. It led to a few thinking that T-Mobile was discontinuing the service. According to T-Mobile (confirmed by CIO.com) that is not the case. T-Mobile plans on putting out a maintenance release for the Bold 9900 in November 2011 to enable Wi-Fi Calling functionality.

Here is what T-Mobile’s rep had to say:

A maintenance release from RIM is expected for the T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900 in November 2011. That update will include Wi-Fi Calling functionality. With the update, the Bold 9900 will have Wi-Fi Calling performance and benefits similar to T-Mobile’s other Wi-Fi Calling-enabled BlackBerry devices.

Anybody else waiting for the update?

BlackBerry Bold 9790 “Bellagio” Caught On Camera Alongside a Bold 9900

  BlackBerry Bold 9790 3 BlackBerry Bold 9790 4

We have heard about the BlackBerry Bold 9790 (codename Bellagio) a few times but now we have it on camera right next to a BlackBerry Bold 9900 thanks to the BoyGenius. The Bold 9790 is sort of an alternative to the Bold 9900 but also packs a touchscreen along with Wi-Fi, 5MP Camera, 8GB storage, NFC, & GPS. They also think it is sporting the same 1.2Ghz processor. In other words it is the middle ground between the Bold 9900 and Bold 9700 models. What do you think of it? I am wondering what niche RIM is trying to fill with this device…
