OS 7.0.0.540 Officially Released for BlackBerry Torch 9810 & 9860

RIM seems to have push OS 7.0.0.540 through certification at a few carriers. It is now available from multiple Vodafones around the world for both the BlackBerry Torch 9810 and BlackBerry Torch 9860. No word on what is new in this release but the same version on the Bold 9900 runs well.

Warning: This OS will not install on any other BlackBerry besides the one mentioned above. Don’t forget to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:program files>common files>research in motion>apploader to install it on a different carriers device. If you do not know how to upgrade your BlackBerry OS please start by reading this step by step guide.

BlackBerry 7 OS Awarded Common Criteria EAL4+ Security Certification

RIM really knows how to woo security organizations to certify their products. The latest gives the new BlackBerry 7 OS the third party Common Criteria evaluation certification and meet the security criteria for evaluation assurance level (EAL) 4+. EAL is a ranking from 1 to 7 but a higher number does not necessarily mean it is more secure. It just means that the TOE (Target of Evaluation) has been put through more extensive verification.

In other words companies can now confidently deploy BlackBerry 7 OS devices knowing that they have yet another certification under their belt. The EAL4+ certification for the BlackBerry Bold 9900, BlackBerry Torch 9810, BlackBerry Torch 9860 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 which currently run the BlackBerry 7 OS is posted on the Common Criteria Portal. BlackBerry 7 OS Awarded Common Criteria EAL4+ Certification

The leaks are back with a new OS for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Torch 9860. The N4BB team scored OS 7.0.0.440 for both devices which is a nice version jump. We don’t know what is new in this version but let us know what you find!

BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860 Commercial Posted by RIM

 

RIM has put up a commercial for their new BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860 this week. The commercial shows off some of the features of the device as RIM’s redeeming all touch BlackBerry. Hopefully the QNX touch BlackBerrys really help RIM take off in the space. I am kind of digging the fact that RIM is finally showing off the features of the phone in commercials instead of more esoteric stuff. Check out the video below:

Wind Canada Getting Bold 9900, Curve 9360, & Torch 9860 This Month

User on Wind up in Canada have been waiting patiently for their BlackBerry 7 devices to launch. According to some information leaked on Howard Forums (via MobileSyrup) Wind users may not need to wait long. It looks like Wind is planning on releasing the BlackBerry Bold 9900, Curve 9360, and Torch 9860 in mid-October. My guess is we will hear more about pricing and exact dates soon.

This is the latest OS we have seen yet so if you are having issues with the previous OS 7.0.0.353 you may want to give this one a spin.

Verizon BlackBerry Torch 9850 Now Available Online!

That was quick! Jacob let us know (via N4BB) that Verizon is now selling the BlackBerry Torch 9850 on their website. The Torch 9850 is the all touch BlackBerry that redeems the Storm line. It is selling for $199.99 on Verizon’s website now with a 2 year contract which is not bad. They even have it featured on the Verizon Wireless homepage.

BlackBerry Torch 9860 & Curve 9360 Spotted in T-Mobile Inventory System

We already had it on good authority that T-Mobile would be getting the BlackBerry Curve 9360 but things have been back and forth about the all touch Torch 9860. We know that RIM has an AWS version of the 9860 that would work on T-Mobile but we have been getting conflicting signals on if they decided to carry it in the end. Thanks to TmoNews we have a leaked T-Mobile inventory screenshot showing both the Torch 9860 and Curve 9360 in their system. For those of you who were looking for a full touch device on a GSM carrier stateside I hope this pans out! It would be T-Mobiles first all touch BlackBerry.

Verizon BlackBerry Torch 9850 Officially Launches September 8th!

We heard rumors that it was coming but now it is official. Verizon has announced the pricing and launch dates for the all touch BlackBerry Torch 9850. The Torch 9850 will be available on Verizon’s website on Sept. 8th and will be in stores on Sept. 15th. Yes you read that right it launches in less than 2 days. Nothing else is really new other than it coming with a free 16GB MicroSDHC card.

While not as much as the 30 free hours they offered previously this lets developers test their apps on real BlackBerrys which are live on mobile networks around the world. Devs can then use the device as if they were holding it through the MobileCloud. This new offer comes just when Perfecto has added the lineup of BlackBerry 7 devices to the Mobile Cloud including the 9900, 9810, and 9850.

Bell & Virgin Mobile Canada Release BlackBerry Curve 9360

Bell and Virgin Mobile Canada were supposed to launch the new BlackBerry Curve 9360 on August 29th but it looks like it came in a little early this weekend. Michelle @CrackBerry noticed that Bell and Virgin Mobile have the device now available on their website. Both of them are selling it for $49.95 with a 3 year contract and $349.95 without a contract. Bell is also now selling the BlackBerry Torch 9860 for $129.95 with a 3 year contract and $599.95 without a contract.

US Cellular Confirms BlackBerry Torch 9850 Launch Date & Price

US Cellular has been pretty quiet during the BlackBerry 7 device rollout. Now we have them coming out and announcing that they will be getting the BlackBerry Torch 9850 (All Touch). They will be selling the device in stores on August 26th for $199.99 after a $100 mail in rebate. That is a bit pricier than what others are charging but they do have some perks like battery swap and rewards program for paying bills on time, adding a line, or referring new customers. They are also offering a switcher credit of $100 per line for users who switch to US Cellular and activate a new smartphone.

Leaked Poster Shows Verizon BlackBerry Torch 9850 Coming

Quite a few Storm users have been wondering if Verizon was going to carry the all touch BlackBerry Torch 9850. The 9850 is RIM’s chance to fix what they failed with the Storm and it seems to be popular. Verizon has remained hush about any BlackBerry but the Bold 9930 but a leaked poster scored by Adam @CrackBerry shows some hope. It shows the BlackBerry Torch 9850 with Verizon branding. While I still recommend the 9930 above all I know quite a few people who love their touchscreen typing and the resolution is gorgeous.

Leaked AT&T Q4 Roadmap With BlackBerry Torch 9860 & Curve 9360

I have been waiting patiently for AT&T to get off their lazy… and release the BlackBerry Bold 9900. Until then we have a leaked AT&T roadmap showing off their Q4 launch devices with the BlackBerry Torch 9860 (all touch) and BlackBerry Curve 9360 on schedule for Q4 whenever this roadmap was created. Sadly my beloved 9900 is not on the list but maybe AT&T was planning for a Q3 launch? It would be really sad if AT&T released the 9360 before the 9900 but with AT&T they might just roll like that.

The BlackBerry 7 devices are rolling out like clockwork. The latest out the gate is the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 from Sprint. The Bold 9930 is going for a nice and reasonable $199.99 and the Torch 9850 is selling for $199.99 after a $50 mail in rebate. Give it a few days and you will probably see another $50 come off of these devices from resellers like WireFly and Amazon.

BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860 Reviews Roundup!

We did a roundup yesterday of the reviews for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 & 9930 and now it is time to cover the new All Touch BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860. These reviews are mostly of the Sprint BlackBerry Torch 9850 Though there are two of the GSM Torch 9860 but the devices are more or less the same otherwise. Reviewers seem to agree that this is what the Storm should have been 2 years ago. They are also loving the fluid OS coupled with the high res screen though the physical buttons seem to be an afterthought in an otherwise well designed phone.
