TinyController: Control Your BlackBerry from Your PC or Mac via USB, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth

TinyController  TinyController2

Over the years there have been quite a few apps that let you control your BlackBerry from your PC. The latest to come to my attention (thanks Jaybo!) is TinyController by CompactByte. TinyController simply gives you no frills control of your BlackBerry smartphone from your PC or Mac through a USB, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth connection between the devices. The app is also focused on speed instead of features which is a different spin.

The best part is that TinyController offers up a 14 day free trial for you to give it a spin. This is because not all apps can work over such an app like BBM Groups so you should definitely try it out before you make the plunge. You can read more about it at www.tinycontroller.com or pick it up in App World for $9.99.

Luko Remote Turns Your PlayBook into a Keyboard & Mouse for Your PC

 Luko Remote Luko Remote 2

I have been looking for a nice app that lets me control my PC’s keyboard and mouse from my PlayBook over Wi-Fi and Luko Remote seems to fit that description. Luko Remote turns your PlayBook into a mouse, keyboard, and even a file explorer for your XP, Vista, or Windows 7 PC. You run their free server application on your PC and as long as the firewall is open you will be in business.

Main features of Luko Remote include:

Luko Remote 3 Luko Remote 4

You can pick up Luko Remote in App World for $2.99 here and you will need the desktop server app from here.

Update: Dennis pointed out that there is a free trial available

Desktop Phone Remote Controls Your BlackBerry Remotely for Only $1.99!

371264 371265

There have been quite a few apps over the years that let you control your BlackBerry from your PC. They tend to be pricey and that is exactly where Desktop Phone Remote differs since it only costs $1.99. They are coming off of their very successful Phone Remote app for the BlackBerry PlayBook and have now ported it to the desktop. You simply install their app on your phone and then fire up the Adobe AIR app on your PC or laptop to control your BlackBerry from your PC.

The simplicity is also nice allowing you to automatically connect on local connections when you are on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. This is great for data entry and other tasks where you want a full screen and keyboard or simply don’t want to pick up your phone. You can also edit the image quality and take a screenshot remotely.

Desktop Phone Remote obviously does not have all the features of an established app like Soti Pocket Controller but for $1.99 in App World it is definitely worth considering.

PocketControl_Prol

SOTI has updated their popular Pocket Controller Pro app to v8.50 this week. This new version mainly brings OS 7.0 support but they have also thrown in a bunch of extra goodies. They added gesture support including keyboard shortcuts and zoom. CrackBerry scored the full change log below:

  • Support for BlackBerry OS 7.0 In our commitment to the BlackBerry platform, SOTI is proud to support all of RIM’s latest smartphones. Native 7.0 support means better application performance on BlackBerry’s latest devices.
  • Pocket Controller-Pro now supports gestures! You can now perform gestures using your mouse or touch screen monitor! Swipe, scroll, and navigate your BlackBerry exactly the same way as you do with your touch-screen BlackBerry smartphones. SOTI Pocket Controller Pro for BlackBerry now gives you 100% of your device’s touch screen experience on your desktop!
  • Cut, Copy and Paste using Ctrl-X, Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V! Additional keyboard shortcuts have been added to save you time. You can now use your keyboard to Cut, Copy and Paste on the BlackBerry using the normal shortcut keys that you’re familiar with on your desktop.

  • Pocket Controller-Pro now has an Exit option! By popular demand, you can now easily exit the BlackBerry application when you’re not using Pocket Controller-Pro and also prevent it from starting up at boot time so it doesn’t use any system resources improving your BlackBerry’s performance and boot time.

You can pick up the free trial of SOTI Pocket Controller Pro on their website after which you can get a license for $35.95.

Phone Remote Controls Your BlackBerry Phone from your PlayBook

318875 317725

Simply Apps knows how to push the envelope! They just released a new application in App World called Phone Remote for the BlackBerry PlayBook. It performs a nice and simple function of remotely controlling your BlackBerry smartphone from your PlayBook over Wi-Fi. They compare it to a remote desktop app for your BlackBerry. You can then use your tablets larger screen to control your BlackBerry. The main restriction now is that it only works over Wi-Fi if both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Future upgrades will add further access.

I can’t really think of a good real world use for this if you already have BlackBerry Bridge but I guess you can run 3rd party apps that are not available on the PlayBook. For $2.99 the Phone Remote app is relatively cheap. You can pick up the main PlayBook app and the companion BlackBerry control app at the links below:
