If RIM were to push one native application to the BlackBerry PlayBook developer version of OS 2, which would you prefer?
As we all know, we unfortunately won't see the official release of the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 until February of 2012, but we were still fortunate enough for RIM to allow developers to take part in a beta version. The beta doesn't contain any of the native applications that we had hoped it would, but that led me to some interesting thoughts. If RIM were to add just one of the native applications to an upcoming developer build, which would you want to see? Would you like to see Contacts, Calendar, Email, BBM, Tasks, Password Keeper or Notes? Odds are we won't see any of them until the official release, but it never hurts to use our imagination a little, right? Database Forms: creando formularios a medida para BlackBerry PlayBook
Nueva aplicación para la tableta BlackBerry PlayBook llamada Database Forms. Con ella podemos crear formularios de una manera fácil y luego dar de alta registros que se guardan de modo segura en una base de datos en el dispositivo BlackBerry PlayBook.
Se puedes crear formularios para gestionar:
En Database Forms tenemos dos interfaces: el de configurador y el de usuario. El primero, el de configuración, es para administrar y diseñar los formularios, una vez diseñados con todos los tipos de campos que queramos que contenga diseñándolo a nuestra medida y según nuestras propias necesidades, se publica el formulario y lo tendremos disponible en el interfaz de usuario. Los tipos de campos que podemos insertar en el formulario son de varios tipos: texto, numérico, Memo, Selectores, Checks, Botones de selección, fecha, hora, etc..
El cambio entre el interfaz de usuario y el de configurador y viceversa se hace como todas las aplicaciones nativas de BlackBerry PlayBook deslizando desde el marco superior el dedo al centro de la pantalla, con eso se nos mostrará el menú de la aplicación:

En el interfaz de configuración, como podéis observar en la pantalla anterior, se pueden añadir nuevos formularios, añadir y administrar los campos de los formularios ya creados (los podéis ver en el menú lateral izquierdo, donde el seleccionado se marca en azul), ordenar los campos, editar las características del formulario y publicar el formulario, así como borrarlo. Al editar un formulario se nos muestra la siguiente pantalla, en la misma definimos en nombre del formulario, podemos ocultar el formulario para que no se vea en el interfaz de usuario, escoger el campo que se nos mostrará en el grid del interfaz de usuario y el campo del formulario por el que se ordenará, así como su orden ascendente o descendente.
Hay un tipo de campo que se puede añadir que se puede vincular a través de él varios formularios:

Hay una versión demo de la aplicación totalmente funcional solo limitada su funcionalidad a la entrada de 10 registros por formulario, una vez instalada la demo también encontramos dos formularios de ejemplo donde se nos muestran los distintos campos que podemos utilizar a la hora de diseñar y utilizar los formularios. Keep track of your projects with FabuList for the BlackBerry PlayBook
FabuList by StandAlone Mobile Applications is a unique to-do list and project management application for the PlayBook that utilizes your entire screen to plan and map out projects or tasks. I'm a very visual person when it comes to organization. I need to see everything in front of me or I wind up forgetting, even when using my BlackBerry. One missed alarm and there goes what I need to get done. I guess I'm old fashioned and it's the reason why organizers and apps have come and gone.
I like to think of FabuList as my own digital flow chart. Rather than having items listed in a specific order there are presented as blocks of data laid out across the PlayBook's screen. This means no having to scroll or sort through multiple items to find the one you want and no drop down menus needed. This is great because it doesn't require a search feature. I can document, chart my progress, color code, and complete my tasks all from my PlayBook. No having to bridge to my device or use an internet connection.
Just tap on the main projects displayed on the left side of the screen and all items for that project fill the space to the right. Each item is color coded: blue for selected tasks, completed is grey, and active tasks are green. FabuList allows you to filter through projects by using the buttons in the upper left of the screen. You can filter within a specific time frame, view overdue items not completed yet or view ones with no specified date.
Features:
FabuList is a pretty good organizer app for the PlayBook. I admit there should be a way to create projects before entering in a task, a way to back up other than Desktop Manager, and the option of more than just three colors. However, it has potential and I hope future updates will bring added functionality. For those of you who like to group projects and see it all laid out in front of you then this is the app for you. BlackBerry PlayBook OS v2.0 Developer Beta updated
The developer beta for the BlackBerry PlayBook v2.0 has been updated. With it brings just a few improvements to help developers in creating their apps. The first is that BlackBerry WebWorks applications can now call the GPS. Secondly, Wi-Fi profiles are now saved and do not disappear after rebooting your PlayBook. After registering to receive the developer beta software, an icon will appear in the status bar on their BlackBerry PlayBook to notify that the update is available. At that point you'll have 24 hours to complete the update of software on your PlayBook. After 24 hours, developers can reregister to receive the Developer Beta of PlayBook OS 2.0 as long as the beta is still open.
If you are already running the developer beta, by now you should see a gear symbol signifying that there is an update available. To update simply tap the top right corner of your screen, select Software Updates, Check for Update and complete.
*Update* - Looks as though RIM decided to put BlackBerry App World back into the build. They've adjusted the information on their blog and it no longer reads that App World will not be loaded. Try reregistering your PIN if you have issues though as suggested in the comments.

Reckless Racing for the BlackBerry PlayBook
I was super happy when I saw that Reckless Racing had finally arrived on the BlackBerry PlayBook. I've had the game on other devices in the past, and it has long been one of my favorite time killers. This overhead racer pits you against oppenents on various courses, speeding your way through mud, dirt and pavement on your way to victory. There is also a Delivery mode where you can test your skills against the clock as you race to deliver packages. Reckless Racing is loads of fun and is that perfect "few minutes of time killing" game when you're on the go. With loads of replay value, you'll find yourself addicted in no time. BlackBerry PlayBook 16 Gb a 289 € en LetsBonus solo hasta mañana
Gracias al aviso de Mon nos enteramos que en la web de LetBonus se ofrece la BlackBerry PlayBook 16 Gb con un 42% de descuento sobre su precio habitual quedando a 289 €, precio algo inferior a los que ofrecen las grandes cadenas que hace unos días también os comentábamos que era de 329 €. Actualización OS Tableta BlackBerry PlayBook a versión 2.0: en febrero
Ayer RIM lo confirmó en su blog diciendo que la actualización a versión 2.0 se espera que esté disponible en Febrero 
Ya dicen que lo bueno se hace esperar… pero hay algunos usuarios que la misma la están esperando ansiosamente y esperar otros 4 meses no es la mejor noticia a darles, son cuatro meses de menos ventas del BlackBerry PlayBook para RIM y esto el mercado no lo perdona. El mercado financiero, concretamente el NASDAQ que cotiza la acción de RIM, en el día de hoy ha recogido dicha noticia con una caída de la acción en un 7%.
Ahora bien esperar tendremos que esperar, que remedio, pero RIM ha de tomar nota que esperamos que la misma venga repleta de novedades más allá de las conocidas hasta la fecha, la espera hará que seamos más exigentes en esa actualización a versión 2.0 y que nuestras expectativas de la misma sean mucho mayores.

Android OS Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice-cream Sandwich corriendo en BlackBerry PlayBook
La semana pasada RIM puso a disposición de los desarrolladores una Beta de la próxima versión 2.0 del OS de la tableta BlackBerry PlayBook. Es una Beta muy preliminar, y solo apta para desarrolladores y para que puedan testear sus aplicaciones para ese sistema operativo, tan Beta que BlackBerry Bridge no funciona normalmente, así como otras tantas aplicaciones que dejan de funcionar debido al hecho de ser Beta ese sistema.
Si sois uno de esos usuarios atrevidos (nada recomendable) y queréis probar el Sistema Operativo 2.0 Beta para BlackBerry PlayBook os podéis registrar en el siguiente link: https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/android/beta/bbtablet20/register/
Si una vez instalado luego hay problemas siempre podéis volver atrás con el Desktop Manager y seleccionado actualizar y degradando el sistema operativo a 1.0.7. Pero vuelvo a repetir que mejor esperar que jugar con versiones Beta, más si utilizáis vuestro BlackBerry PlayBook y queréis que funcione todo bien, porque no lo hará, por eso es una Beta y luego no hay sorpresas, ni lamentos, ni reclamaciones.
Pues bien con esa versión Beta ya tenemos también el Android Player en el mismo sistema operativo y la gente a empezado a trastear con él. Ya hay muchas aplicaciones convertidas a BlackBerry PlayBook para su instalación, en CrackBerry tenéis una entrada en sus foros y en BlackBerry India un directorio con otras tantas Apps.
Aunque quizás lo que más me ha llamado la atención es que transcurridos unos días de la disponibilidad de esa versión Beta la gente ya ha encontrado el método para instalar y hacer correr aplicaciones de Android de todos los sistemas operativos, esto es Gingerbread, Honeycomb y Ice-cream Sandwich. Mejor mirar el vídeo de BlackBerry India:
Corren algunas con limitaciones del propio sistema de QNX y el acceso a sus APIs documentadas en la web RIM de Android para BlackBerry BBX, no habrá nada mejor que aplicaciones nativas para BlackBerry PlayBook, pero claro está que el abanico que aplicaciones instalables para BlackBerry PlayBook se multiplican exponencialmente.

Get your Chi on with ToFu for the BlackBerry PlayBook
Growing up in my household, loving everything martial arts was a must! Having a father who studied the art and is a black belt meant I cut my teeth on Bruce Lee movies and the Kung Fu series (Deepest sympathies to my classmate Kansas, RIP Carradine). When I was browsing through App World last week, I ran across a game for the BlackBerry PlayBook called ToFu by HotGen Limited. While the name threw me off, the icon caught my attention. Was that really a piece of ToFu wearing a karate headband?!
To-Fu is the world's stretchiest martial artist. You join our young hero on his journey in the "Trials of Chi". Tales from the RIMPIRE: How a BlackBerry PlayBook replaced a laptop
As it was just a little over a year ago the PlayBook was announced, I thought it fitting to tell a tale of why I'm a proud member of the RIMPIRE. In the past few months I've had the opportunity to go completely PC-less. One case wasn't by choice while the other was. Now the million dollar question is can a person survive with limited access to a PC (not counting work) and use nothing but their PlayBook? You'll find out after the break.
Case #1 - Broken Laptop
Back in May I woke one morning to find my laptop's display dead. Now the truth was I needed to find another way to get my work done before I drove everyone around me crazy. While waiting for a replacement, I decided to rely on my PlayBook and BlackBerry during those couple of weeks hoping they would fill the shoes of my dearly departed desktop. Up until this point I'd only used the PlayBook for games and browsing the internet because of my own personal problems with the keyboard. Now I faced my demons and realized it wasn't so bad afterall.
My immediate challenge: writing posts. I couldn't just stop because my laptop had a boo boo. My solution? Documents to Go. Using the premium version on the PlayBook and the standard one on my device I wrote posts everywhere I could for just about every article posted in May: on the train, on the bus, in the lunchroom at work, and even on my comfy couch while watching TV.
I would start the post on my BlackBerry, snap a screen shot, and then use BlackBerry Bridge or File Browser to transfer or open the files on the PlayBook (or vice versa) to edit and post. After awhile, I realized how heavy my laptop was and having that burden lifted was a relief. Plus the added bonus of not dragging around power cords or burning my lap from the heat helped too.
Now I'm not going to bore you with the day-to-day tasks that followed. Using tablets is all about what you use it for. Since I'm the type of person who checks my emails, edits documents and spreadsheets, accesses chat rooms, plays games, and connects fo friends via social networking sites, the PlayBook fit nicely into my daily routine. Plus I loaded it up with TV Shows, Movies, and Books to take with me while commuting. I once debated over buying a netbook, well as you can tell, not anymore.
Case # 2 - Travelling
I decided to take it with me during my corporate training in Chicago and wouldn't you know it I didn't miss a beat. As a co-worker quietly read her magazine during the flight (laptop was packed away), I watched a movie, played a few different games, and read a few chapters of a book. At the hotel, I used Wi-Fi to connect to my company's outlook website and responded to messages.
What I loved most was bringing it to the training facility. The building had no cell service whatsoever but complimentary Wi-Fi. So while they lectured I tweeted (with Blaq), checked email, and caught up with the latest CrackBerry news all at the same time. Needless to say I was very happy that it lasted the entire trip without requiring a charge.
Now this was no easy feat mind you. I admit there were a couple of times I cheated and fired up the ol' laptop and plugged it into the TV to work. My hands were tied because one of the apps I reviewed that month required a PC and I needed to Photoshop out some personal information on another.
Since the BlackBerry PlayBook came on the scene, the question of whether they can truly replace a laptop has always been out there one way or the other. In my case it did. It's lighter with a longer battery life that also let me get work done, view YouTube videos, check my email, and BBM my friends while my device charged in another room. That's why I've been carrying it around instead of my laptop. I'm not kidding, I sat playing Dead Space in the doctor's office and almost missed my appointment. Now that is how my PlayBook replaced a laptop :).

CrackBerry Asks: Do you keep your BlackBerry PlayBook bridged all day?
BlackBerry Bridge is one of the big selling points of the BlackBerry PlayBook. It allows you to pair up your BlackBerry smartphone so you can securely access your contacts, emails, BBM and calendar. This is especially handy since the PlayBook still doesn't have any native versions of these apps on its own. Many users keep their devices bridged all day long so they have the ability to access these apps on either their phone or tablet.
Personally I don't keep my PlayBook bridged much at all. At times when I'm relaxing on the couch I'll pair up my devices and use the PlayBook for everything, but most times I am either in front of my computer or just use my device for my PIM apps. What we want to know is if you keep your devices bridged all day long or if you only do it at certain times. Lemma para BlackBerry PlayBook: cliente gratuito de Twitter
A falta de un cliente oficial de RIM de Twitter para BlackBerry PlayBook, en la App World han aparecido varios clientes de Twitter de pago, ahora aparece Lemma que es un cliente gratuito. Y no solo es un cliente gratuito, sino que todo su código fuente está disponible para que la comunidad de desarrolladores lo puedan estudiar y mejorar, realizado con Webworks, así que si tienes conocimiento de HTML, Javacript y CSS es un buen ejemplo.
