Free BeepUs App Makes Push to Talk BBM a Reality

I have always hoped that RIM would add Push to Talk or other voice calling features into BBM. So far RIM has just made it a little simpler to send voice notes but nothing near a full push to talk with presence solution. That has not stopped Tuk Digital Solutions from trying. I noticed a few friends on BBM were using BeepUs and decided to check it out. The free BeepUs app uses the new BBM social network APIs to allow you to have free Push to Talk conversations with your BBM friends.

I am not sure how well this will work continuously since RIM does have some limits on the transfer size and continuous connections on BBM but the concept is awesome. If you like sending voice notes or using Push to Talk you will love BeepUs . Hopefully Tuk keeps on adding new features to the app!

Evernote v1.1.1 for the PlayBook Lets You Finally Save New Notes

 

I know many users were really glad when Evernote finally released a BlackBerry PlayBook client but it came with a caveat. It did not let you save new notes. Well that limitation is now gone thanks to an update rolled out today in App World to Evernote v1.1.1. This version lets you save new notes along with all the previous features. Easily Set Call Reminder Notes to Show When Certain Contacts Call You

 

Finmouse let us know about their new BlackBerry app Call Reminder Notes. The app lets you easily create and assign a reminder note to a single or multiple contacts so you can remember what you need to talk about. The note then shows up when you receive a call and can remain on the screen. They also have an after call feature that lets you add reminders, calendar events, and edit the contact notes after a call. In other words it is great for people who need to juggle sales calls and the like.

Evernote Beta v3.3.333 Adds Support For Offline Notes

I have not been using Evernote consistently on my BlackBerry for one main reason. It did not let you take notes when you did not have a network connection. It was an annoying restriction that made taking notes on the NYC subway impossible so I resorted to the native notepad. Adam @CrackBerry noticed that Evernote has put out a new beta of their app that adds offline notes to the BlackBerry smartphone app along with a few other bug fixes.

This update lets you now load the app without waiting for a connection and view your notes when your cached notes with no connection. The first connection will sync the majority of the info to your SD card which may take some time the first sync so do it over Wi-Fi. Notes with a * by them are stored locally.

Check out the beta v3.3.333 of Evernote on their forums. Hopefully this goes gold soon!

Evernote v3.2.328 Released to Fix Small Bugs

@Mark_Cathey let us know that Evernote has released a small update to their BlackBerry app bringing it to v3.2.328. In their forums Evernote explains that this update is to fix several issues including a note loading issue and the ability to send by email. Not a huge update but worth upgrading if you are having issues.

You can pick up the updated Evernote in App World or on their forums. There also seems to be an alpha hosting site that has some newer versions here but I have not been willing to risk trying it since it is not clearly run by Evernote.

Evernote Releases Free Official BlackBerry PlayBook Client!

 

Hooah! Official apps for popular web services are starting to come in for the PlayBook. The latest is Evernote which Michelle @CrackBerry just spotted on App World. In case you don’t know Evernote is a really slick web service that started off letting you take notes and now includes many other features like pictures and sync them between your devices. Think of it as a central “notepad” app on steroids. Here are some of the ways you can use Evernote:

• For research and class notes
• For client and sales meetings
• To stay in-sync with your desktop notes, web clips, and files
• To snap photos of whiteboards and business cards
• As part of your GTD system to help you stay organized
• To record quick voice memos

Free Idea Catch Quick Note App for the PlayBook

While I have found myself using Word to Go for some quick note taking Ashley pointed out Idea Catch to me. This free app by Mad Corgi Software is intended to easily jot down an idea before it is flushed out of your head. You can then use the app to add notes to your idea and store them for later reference.

I have been doing something like this with Memos on my BlackBerry for awhile but I have been trying out Idea Catch today with good results. You can pick up the free Idea Touch app in App World here.

Developer Note: Tap on the cursor to bring up the keyboard in the Description and Note edit fields.  An update will be released soon to improve the keyboard behavior.
