SMS Bridge for the PlayBook Gets Really Creative

bridge-BlackBerry

I have heard quite a few users complaining that the BlackBerry Bridge for the PlayBook does not support SMS messages. While I don’t see that as critical since SMS is ridiculously expensive here in the US I am simply amazed with the creativity of Ming Huang and their SMS Bridge app for the PlayBook.

The bridge app forwards the SMS you get to your PlayBook as an email through its app on your BlackBerry. From what I can tell it doesn’t actually forward the email but rather makes a copy of the text message and then creates a new email out of it. Ming got even more creative by letting you reply to SMS from your PlayBook through those emails which are sent out through their transport. I am not sure exactly how that works but they also show your latest two phone calls in your inbox through the bridge which you can reply to and have it send a SMS to that contact.

Honestly I have not had a chance to try the app for myself since a friend borrowed my PlayBook but check out the SMS bridge for $3.99 in App World if you get a chance.

YouMail Visual Voicemail App Updated to v2.4.11

123190

ShvartzBerry let us know that YouMail has quietly updated the BlackBerry client for visual voicemail service. YouMail offers both paid and free (Ad supported) versions of their voicemail solution but they have been having trouble getting a solid BlackBerry client out there. Their recent upgrade to v2.3.4 offered up some nice new features but we could not find a change log for this latest update. Let us know if you spot one!

You can pick up the updated v2.4.11 of YouMail in App World

QuickView Pro - Find out if that email/SMS is worth looking at without going to your inbox

QuickView Pro QuickView Pro

So I'm waitng for an email from our fearless leader here at CrackBerry and am passing the time watching some YouTube videos. When my email notification finally goes off I immeadiately scramble to open my inbox. Drat! It's just an email from my mother with another "funny" story about my nephew. Those of us who have the BlackBerry Style 9670 already have a built in pop-up feature for the outer screen letting us preview an email or SMS when our device is closed. Now with QuickView Pro, by AHazDesigns, you can see who the incoming message just came from & if it's important enough to read right away.

You even have the option of changing the color and size of the pop-up. QuickView Pro is available for pretty much every BlackBerry (OS 4.5 or higher) and is supported by all carriers & countries. Grab a copy today and quit wasting your precious time on spam messages!

QuickView Pro Lets You Preview Email and SMS with Popups

QuickView Pro2 QuickView Pro1

The whole idea of popups for notifications started as a trend awhile back and the apps for it have grown more complex as they develop. That is why I was intrigued by QuickView Pro when one of our readers pointed it out. Ahaz Designs has gone back to the basics and simply offered an app that will popup a preview of email or SMS with your own preset size, color, and length of notification.

It lacks the extra features found in similar apps like BerryPopup but it has the basics done right. The $0.99 price point is also nice in simple for QuickView Pro in App World. Thanks JR via CrackBerry
