Desktop Phone Remote Controls Your BlackBerry Remotely for Only $1.99!

371264 371265

There have been quite a few apps over the years that let you control your BlackBerry from your PC. They tend to be pricey and that is exactly where Desktop Phone Remote differs since it only costs $1.99. They are coming off of their very successful Phone Remote app for the BlackBerry PlayBook and have now ported it to the desktop. You simply install their app on your phone and then fire up the Adobe AIR app on your PC or laptop to control your BlackBerry from your PC.

The simplicity is also nice allowing you to automatically connect on local connections when you are on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. This is great for data entry and other tasks where you want a full screen and keyboard or simply don’t want to pick up your phone. You can also edit the image quality and take a screenshot remotely.

Desktop Phone Remote obviously does not have all the features of an established app like Soti Pocket Controller but for $1.99 in App World it is definitely worth considering.

BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac v2.2 in Beta Zone for NA Users

Desktop software mac

I am not sure why RIM is limiting this to NA Mac users but if you happen to be one head on over to the Beta Zone for the update. This brings us to v2.2 from the previous v2.1.2. I did not originally have the program available to me until I changed my profile in the Beta Zone to say I have a Mac. No words on what this update brings but RIM wants users to focus on the core functionality for testing.

You can pick up the update if you are eligible at www.blackberry.com/beta

BlackBerry Desktop Software 7 Beta Screenshots

DM3

One of our tipsters finally got access to the BlackBerry Desktop Software 7 beta and sent us some screenshots. At first look Desktop Software 7 is VERY similar to Desktop Software 6. It updates your Wi-Fi Media Sync app but that’s about it. The one place that seems to have gotten a major overhaul is the Organizer Sync section. I didn’t notice any crazy new features but it seems more user friendly, organized, and streamlined though it only supports 32-bit Outlook for now. Will let you know as we learn more.

New organizer options:

organizer1 organizer2

organizer3 organizer4

organizer5 organizer6

RIM Sending Out Invites to Desktop Software 7 Beta Zone Program

Desktop Software Update

A tipster let us know that RIM is sending out invites to Desktop Manager in the Beta Zone. I am not sure how they are deciding who the pick but I have heard a couple reports since from other recipients. Supposedly the UI has been upgraded but other than that the change log is very cryptic. RIM has not yet sent the keycode out so we do not have a screenshot but hopefully we will soon.

According to the change log in the release notes the only changes are:

More as we get it!

bb_playbook1940

While Shape Services is still waiting for IM+ to be approved for the PlayBook they managed to get one of their other headline applications approved. RDM+ is now available for the PlayBook in App World and allows you to remote desktop into your PC or Mac using the software. I have been using RDM+ on my BlackBerry for a few years now so its nice to see it coming to the PlayBook. The price is also right at $9.99 for RDM+ in App World and it lets you connect to multiple remote computers from the app. Free RDM+ Desktop application should be installed on each computer you want to have access to.

You need to install the free RDM+ Desktop app from www.rdmplus.com to make it work and purchase RDM+ for $9.99 in App World.
