As a web developer I have always been interested in the WebWorks platform for BlackBerry. RIM seems to be really seeing the value of the platform and has been investing a great deal of effort into it. They recently purchased TinyHippos along with their Ripple emulator to expand the BlackBerry environment and the results are starting to come out.
According to their latest DevBlog post they are counting on TinyHippos Ripple Emulator to replace parts of the WebWorks development puzzle. They realize that firing up a desktop and simulator sucks for web development and that is where Ripple excels. It lets you edit your code and simply hit refresh in the Ripple emulator to test it out.

In the spirit of this replacement RIM is going to be retiring the WebWorks plugins for Visual Studio and Eclipse that were clunkers in my opinion. They will be available in the dev zone until October 19th after which they will end support for them on Dec 31st 2011. They will also only be compatible with WebWorks v2.0 and earlier.
