The Blackberry Playbook Youtube Downloader application being reviewed has many useful features. Besides acting as a Youtube video downloader the app can be used to watch videos privately as recently watched videos are not stored. Another plus is that bandwidth is transferred through private servers, rather than busy Youtube, so the videos are always loading quick and downloads are fast as well. When available you can draw 480P, 720P and 1080P MP4 videos and download them directly to your Playbook for later viewing.
You can download the app via a .Bar file and sideload it to your Playbook.

Once you load the app this is your initial screen. Here you will see the recently watched videos (by everyone) and a search bar.

Use the search bar to browse/download videos. In the example I searched “Kanye West”

You can now see Pages worth of videos relating to your search. I selected ‘All of The Lights”

I can now Watch the video by clicking it or download by clicking “download” in the top left corner. You can also browse related videos on the far right sidebar.

Once you click download you are given the following options.

When AVAILABLE you can download high quality 720P and 1080P video. But not all videos have this option. Sometimes, if the videos is very poor quality and doesn’t have a mp4 (even 480P) option you will not be able to download it.
Once you click to download which ever size you’d prefer your browser will open and ask you to save the file. You may at this point rename the file but make sure you retain the .mp4 extension.

F.A.Q.
Where do the videos go?
Your videos are downloaded into your Videos folder.
What if it’s not there?
It’s probably still downloading. Make sure you are downloading via a WIFI connection as the videos tend to be big. You can track the progress by sliding down from center on your browser and clicking the download tab. Sometimes the download progress isn’t shown, that’s purely a Tablet OS bug and it happens sometimes. But your video will show once it’s finished and you can use a file browser to see that it is in fact being stored on your Playbook.
Anymore questions? Please reply and they will be addressed.
