New BlackBerry Communities Unites RIM Communities On One Page

BlackBerry Communities

When I first saw this email from RIM I was really hoping it meant they managed to get all of their communities to use the same login. While that is not the case they have created a new umbrella page called BlackBerry Communities. According to RIM this new BlackBerry Communities effort is a re-branded and re-launched variant of MyBlackBerry. I found that my.blackberry.com still has the same features but it is not highlighted on the new BlackBerry Communities page.

What is very interesting is that RIM gives you a one page view of what is going on in the BlackBerry social world all in one place with BlackBerry Communities. It highlights things like RIM’s 7+ million Facebook fans and almost half a million twitter followers. Also there is the fact that they have 320,717 BlackBerry support forum users. It is a pretty sweet page to get a snapshot of RIM’s social dashboard but I wish it had more depth beyond the front page.

Check it out for yourself at us.blackberry.com/communities

Here is the email RIM sent out about the announcement:

Hello, As a valued registered user of MyBlackBerry™, we are pleased to notify you that the site is being re-branded and re-launched as "BlackBerry Communities," starting June 13, 2011.
You’ll be able to access our new Communities page at: http://us.blackberry.com/communities.
From the BlackBerry Communities page, you’ll now be able to scan at a glance all the activity happening in real-time in all our communities. And because we value the opportunity to connect with our customers online, you’ll also be able to quickly join any BlackBerry community conversation already in progress on Facebook®, Twitter®, YouTube®, our Support forums and our blogs, as well as see the top trending and newest free and paid BlackBerry Apps!
Thank you,
The BlackBerry Team at Research In Motion Limited
