Rumor: Neil Sainsbury to Possibly Replace Mike Kirkup as Director of Dev Relations @RIM

Neil Sainsbury neil-2-mid

It was sad news when we heard that Mike Kirkup would be leaving RIM and leaving his post of Sr. Director of Developer Relations at RIM. Now Kevin @CrackBerry is hearing that Neil Sainsbury (@eZainny) might be stepping in to take Mikes place as a possible candidate for the Director of Developer Relations at RIM. This is a very interesting move since Neil was a very popular BlackBerry developer out of Australia before he was snapped up by RIM a few years back. He developed the BBSmart applications like the uber popular BBSmart Email Viewer, BBSmart Shortcuts, & BBSmart Alarms and others. He was very vocal about BlackBerry development and talked from a developers perspective on his DevBerry.com blog about how RIM could improve developer relations. He then moved on to work for RIM and eventually moved to Canada.

It would be very telling move if RIM placed him in the developer relations role since he clearly knows many of the pain points RIM can fix for developers to improve their experience. Hopefully whomever RIM chooses can make some serious waves and Neil definitely fits the bill.
